Hon. Stanley Adedeji Olajide has expressed deep sorrow on the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State.

The member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on ICT and Cyber Security, extended his “heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, the Government and people of Oyo State, and all Nigerians”, on the passing of one of “Nigeria’s brightest minds and most illustrious sons.”

OdidiOmo stated further: “The news of the demise of Dr. Olunloyo on Saturday 5th of April, 2025, came as a shock to us all. A man of immense intellect, uncommon grace, and unwavering commitment to the progress of our dear country, Dr. Olunloyo’s death marks the end of a golden era in Nigeria’s early scholarship merged with public service. As a Professor of Mathematics, a revered scholar, a seasoned administrator, and a former Governor of Oyo State, his life was a testament to dedication, excellence, and service to humanity.

“Born in Kudeti, Ibadan, Dr. Olunloyo stood as a towering figure in both academia and politics. He was a rare blend of brilliance and humility, a man whose contributions spanned decades and touched countless lives. As a Kudeti-born scholar, he rose from the very heart of Ibadan to become a globally respected intellectual, proving to the world that excellence can be homegrown and nurtured with purpose.

“Dr. Olunloyo’s commitment to education, leadership, and democratic values remains unparalleled. His deep understanding of complex mathematical concepts was matched only by his equally profound grasp of political governance and nation-building. In a time when Nigeria needed visionaries, he offered his intellect and experience for the growth of our democratic structures and institutions.

“As a one-time Governor of our great state, Oyo, he governed with clarity of thought and foresight. Though his tenure was brief, the legacy he left behind has stood the test of time, influencing governance and developmental strategies within the state for years. “His voice of wisdom, often sought after on issues of national concern, served as a guiding light to younger politicians and statesmen. Dr. Olunloyo was not just a participant in Nigeria’s political journey; he was a pillar, a teacher, and a juggernaut whose democratic ideals were both principled and progressive.

“His death is not only a great loss to the people of Ibadan and Oyo State but to the entire Nigerian federation. Nigeria has lost one of its finest thinkers, a man who merged academic excellence with the burning desire for national transformation. His intellectual contributions extended far beyond the classroom; they informed policy, guided political debates, and inspired a generation of public servants to strive for integrity and purpose.

“To his immediate and extended family, I offer my deepest sympathies. You have lost a father, a mentor, and a patriarch whose name has become synonymous with excellence and honor. May God grant you the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and may the legacy of your father continue to shine as a beacon of hope and greatness.

My condolences also go to the Governor of Oto State and the entire people of the state who have lost a rare gem.

“As a country, we must learn from the great statesman and build on the legacy he left behind.

“Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo may have departed this world, but his legacy will continue to live on in our institutions, in our political memory, and in the history of Nigeria. His life of honour and integrity has left an indelible mark on the sands of time, and for that, we remain grateful.

“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace, and may God comfort all who mourn him.” Honourable Olajide remarked.
