Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has handed over ten new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force, Irrua Area Command, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations in Edo Central Senatorial District.

The governor, who commissioned the vehicles at a brief ceremony, said the initiative reflects his administration’s deep concern for the safety and welfare of residents across the state.

“This is not just about buying vehicles for the police,” Okpebholo said. “It’s about protecting our people. It pains me that someone could leave home and not return because of criminals. We must keep fighting to reclaim our communities.”

He commended the Inspector-General of Police for deploying the Mobile Police (MOPOL) 82 Squadron to Uromi, describing the move as timely and significant for the region’s security.

“We can’t deploy men without giving them the tools to work. These vehicles will help them respond faster and operate more effectively,” the governor added.

Okpebholo also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued financial and developmental support to Edo State, crediting federal assistance for many of the administration’s recent achievements.

“I want to thank Mr. President for believing in Edo. Without his financial backing, progress would be difficult. His reforms are driving growth across the country,” he noted.

In their remarks, the Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu; the Area Commander; and Vice Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Edo Central, Mr. Shaka Momodu Williams, all praised the governor for his consistent investment in security and other sectors.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku; State APC Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe; retired General Cecil Esekhaigbe; and Senator Joe Ikpea.

The event concluded with the symbolic presentation of vehicle keys to the police authorities, marking another step in the state government’s drive to enhance security infrastructure in Edo Central.
