The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recorded a landslide victory in the Osun State local government elections, securing all 30 chairmanship positions and every councillorship seat across the state.
Announcing the results at a press conference in Osogbo on Saturday, the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Hashim Abioye, confirmed PDP’s sweeping triumph.
The election, held amid opposition concerns, reinforced PDP’s dominance in the state. The ruling party’s clean sweep was widely anticipated, given Osun’s current political landscape.
In the buildup to the polls, opposition parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), questioned the credibility of the process. The APC, which governed Osun until 2022, boycotted the election, labeling it a “sham” and alleging manipulation in favor of PDP candidates.
Despite the controversy, OSIEC proceeded with the election, insisting that due process was followed in its conduct.
