Former Ekiti State Governor and prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Ayodele Fayose, has painted a grim picture of his party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections, warning that the PDP might struggle to finish even among the top three.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Fayose expressed deep frustration over what he described as the party’s internal disarray, loss of credibility, and erosion of political influence.

“A lot is wrong with our party. Associating with the PDP today is shameful enough; the party is too weak to take a grab of anything lately. With more prayers, the PDP will become fourth in the coming election,” Fayose said bluntly.

He forecasted the party’s position in the 2027 elections, stating that unless major changes occur, the PDP would fall behind its rivals.

“The APC will come first, Obi will come second, ADC (African Democratic Congress) will come third, and the PDP will come fourth, go and write it down,” he declared.

The outspoken former governor did not hold back in criticizing the current leadership of the PDP, accusing them of failing to provide direction or rally the party’s base. He lamented the mass defections of key figures, saying the PDP had been reduced to a shadow of its former self.

“The soul of PDP is gone, the spirit is gone; it is only the body that is remaining. People who matter seem to be out of the party. The people who have defected from the party have left it in a carcass,” Fayose said.

“The PDP has messed up; managing the party has become an issue. In most states, they have already compromised; they have eased out so many leaders.”

Despite his scathing remarks, Fayose insisted that he remains committed to the PDP, although he acknowledged being sidelined.

“I have paid my dues in the PDP, and you cannot continue to match a man like me in Ekiti and tell me all will go well. I remain a member of the PDP, and I shall remain a member of the party.”

“The moment I refuse to be a member of the PDP, I will return home. I will never be a member of the APC. I will never be a member of the ADC, and I will never be a member of the Labour Party,” he concluded.

Fayose’s comments are the latest in a string of internal criticisms reflecting growing dissatisfaction within the ranks of Nigeria’s main opposition party.
