Speaking on BBC Breakfast whilst promoting new Disney+ show A Thousand Blows, Knight confirmed that shooting on the Netflix film wrapped in December 2024, before teasing viewers about how it’s coming together so far.

He said: “I would say this wouldn’t I, but it’s fantastic. I think we’ve got the best British actors all in one place. The stuff that I’m watching, the rushes, the assemblies, no one will be disappointed.

“It’s a quite incredible thing. It’s a very fitting way to end this part of the story.”

The movie comes after the BBC’s Peaky Blinders TV show ended with its sixth season in 2022. Written by Knight and directed by Peaky season one’s Tom Harper, it will see Cillian Murphy back on screen as Birmingham gangster family leader Tommy Shelby, alongside other returning cast members Stephen Graham and Sophie Rundle.

There will also be some new faces amongst the Shelbys, including Saltburn and Bird’s Barry Keoghan, Dune and Silo’s Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth and Jay Lycurgo, who join the cast in still-unknown roles. Plot details are still under wraps, though Knight has said that it is set during World War II.

Knight has previously hinted that the film wouldn’t be the last thing we see set in the world of the early 1900s Birmingham gangsters. In December 2024, Knight mentioned that there may be another Peaky Blinders show coming that focuses “on the new generation”. Later that month, he told Times Radio that the upcoming film “won’t be the end”.

When asked on BBC Breakfast what happens after the film’s closing credits, Knight said: “It’s not over, let’s just put it that way. I’m not allowed to announce it, but let’s just say that the world of Peaky will continue.”

The Peaky Blinders film is set to release this year but a date has not been confirmed.
