“The world mourns with you as everyone is joined in celebrating the extraordinary life of this remarkable, good-hearted former Chairman of First Bank plc, who devoted his life to service to the country, people and the development of his immediate community and society at large, impacting hugely on all spheres of life.

Prince Afonja’s contributions stand as a testament to the power of grassroots organizing, advocating and spreading the ideology of a united community as the vehicle for impactful change, starting from one town and then transforming to state and nation.

Uncle Jibola’s tireless efforts earned him not only a national recognition and numerous prestigious awards, but the respect of millions who were inspired by his commitment to conservation, democracy, women empowerment, the eradication of poverty, and civic engagement.

Prince Sulaiman Ajibola Afonja further advanced these objectives through his service in Oyo Town, Oyo State, the banking industry, and nigeria at large.

His worldview and memorable motto which states, “We must not tire, we must not give up, we must persist” are indeed etched on the sands of time.

It is noteworthy that his philanthropic lifestyle has benefitted countless senior citizens, widows, market women, and youths .

Prince Ajibola’s short period as a minister under the interim government of Chief Earnest Shonekan added values to our dear country.

Indeed, Uncle Ajibola was a friend to all.

I pray for the repose soul of the departed chief ‘IDS, ” as he was fondly called by everyone who was fortunate to be in his circle of friend and family.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
