A devastating fire has destroyed property worth millions of naira in Idumota, Lagos, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

In a statement issued by Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, the fire broke out on Friday night, affecting multiple buildings used as auto parts shops in the area.

“Following distress calls received via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Lines at 10:20 PM, LASEMA swiftly activated its Emergency Response Teams from Lekki, Cappa, and the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.

Upon arrival at the scene by 10:55 PM, it was confirmed that several shops selling car spare parts were fully engulfed in flames. “At this time, the immediate or remote causes of the fire have yet to be determined,” he added.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported as a result of the incident.”The fire caused extensive damage, with goods and properties worth hundreds of millions of naira destroyed,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

“However, thanks to the combined efforts of LASEMA’s Shark and Tiger Response Teams, along with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Federal Fire Service, the fire was contained and prevented from spreading to neighboring buildings.”

He further revealed that law enforcement agencies were present to manage crowd control and ensure safety at the scene. “Frantic efforts are currently underway to completely extinguish the flames,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.

“Dampening down operations have begun to address the remaining pockets of fire, and efforts are being made to salvage valuable properties from the affected shops.”

The recovery operation is ongoing, with LASEMA teams working diligently to ensure the area is fully secured.
