The Rivers State Government has responded to false reports circulating on social media, which claim that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has ordered the shutdown of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and all oil companies within the state.
In a statement signed by Hon. Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the government refuted the claims, calling the reports “spurious” and “a concocted propaganda from the imagination of the author and enemies of the State.”
Johnson emphasized that Governor Fubara, who is “committed to the rule of law,” has never considered nor directed such an action, stressing that the governor “does not rely on unconventional and crude approaches to respond to matters of governance.”
The Rivers State Government urged residents and all Nigerians to disregard the fabricated report, adding, “Governor Fubara at no time contemplated or directed such a needless order of shutting down the economy for any reason.”
The state government also criticized the medium that published the false report, describing it as “inconsequential and unverified.”
