Spotify has jumped in on the joke after an interviewer mistook Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante for Poppy over the weekend.
The moment took place at the 67th annual Grammy Awards last Sunday (February 2), when Spiritbox frontwoman Courtney LaPlante was mistaken for Poppy during an interview.
When being asked about the Best Metal Performance nod, the singer decided to go along with the mistake and answer as if she were Poppy.
After originally giving the interviewer a look of confusion, LaPlante said: “I am Poppy, and I am really happy to be here nominated with Knocked Loose. I really hope we win.”

The Spiritbox singer went on to answer on behalf of the real Poppy, who had been nominated in the past, and recalled how “she” felt honoured to have performed with Knocked Loose on Jimmy Kimmel recently.
Now, following the awkward interview going viral, Spotify has also kept the joke going by making a nod to the mix-up in a recent playlist.
For its Kickass Metal Playlist of this week, the streaming platform used an image of LaPlante as the featured photo, while adding the note: “Poppy on top of today’s best Metal playlist”.

Both artists have their work featured on the playlist. Poppy has her song ‘They’re All Around Us’ added to the mix, while Spiritbox have two tracks included: ‘Perfect Soul’ and ‘Soft Spine’. Check out the Spotify playlist here.
Poppy has not publicly commented on the mix-up but did acknowledge it on social media, posting a snippet of the interview on Instagram as part of her Grammys post.
Both Spiritbox and Poppy were nominated for Best Metal Performance for ‘Cellar Door’ and ‘Suffocate’ respectively. However, they would ultimately lose to French band Gojira, who won for ‘Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)’, which they performed at the 2024 Paris Olympics. See the full list of Grammys 2025 winners here.
