A suspected internet fraudster, yet to be identified, is currently battling for his life after being shot by his alleged associates over a disagreement involving N94 million, reportedly proceeds from an online scam.
The incident, which occurred last Sunday along Okhoro Road in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, has prompted an investigation by the Edo State Police Command.
Confirming the case, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, stated, “The victim is undergoing treatment at an undisclosed hospital, and we have launched a full investigation to apprehend the culprits involved in this act of violence.”
Saga Gist reports that the victim was ambushed while driving his Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants, driving another vehicle, forced him out of his car and shot him at close range.
One of the witnesses, who requested anonymity, described the victim as an “Aza man,” a street term for individuals who manage bank accounts used to launder money from fraudulent schemes.
“The Aza man reportedly refused to remit the agreed share of N94 million to his syndicate. He kept the entire amount to himself, which led to the fallout,” the eyewitness disclosed.
The police have called on the public to provide any information that could aid their investigation. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked concern about the rising violence and internal disputes among criminal networks in the region.
