Marc Bolan and Audrey Hepburn

T-Rex legend Marc Bolan and screen icon Audrey Hepburn to be honoured with new London blue plaques.

The two figures are among several who the English Heritage say have made a significant impact on London’s cultural landscape. The plaques are awarded based on public suggestions.

Hepburn spent her early years in London during which she switched from ballet to acting. It was during her time in the capital that she landed her first major stage and screen roles. Hepburn will be commemorated with a blue plaque in Mayfair.

Bolan, the charismatic frontman of glam-rock band T-Rex, was known for his flamboyant style and shape-shifting music. He will be honoured with a plaque at one of his former addresses in West London.

The charity paid tribute to both Hepburn and Bolan as well as other figures who won awards including poet and campaigner Una Marson, ballet pioneer Alicia Markova, novelist Barbara Pym and artist Graham Sutherland.

The curatorial director of English Heritage, Matt Thompson, said in a statement: “2025 marks an exciting year for the blue plaques scheme as we honour these outstanding individuals who transformed the cultural fabric of London.

“From literature and art to dance and music, these figures helped shape the London we know today. Their contributions not only had a profound impact on their fields but also continue to inspire generations.”

Meanwhile, last summer, a blue plaque was placed at George Harrison’s childhood home in Liverpool.

The late Beatles member’s widow Olivia Harrison unveiled the tribute at the house in Arnold Grove, Liverpool. Per the BBC, she went on to say that it was “a source of family pride”.

The rock icon – who passed in 2001 at the age of 58 after battling cancer – was born in 1943 and lived in the terraced house in the Wavertree district of the city until the age of seven.

“There was something about these small family places and how you learn to respect other people’s space,” Harrison’s widow said about the location (per the BBC). “He had a freedom where he could go run down the alley and visit his nan and then back home. That was a big deal for a little five-year-old kid.

“This was his cocoon, and out of that came such an incredible man with such vision and compassion and sensibility.”
