Timothée Chalamet has weighed in on the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.

The beef between the two rappers began in 2013, but came to a head last year through a string of diss tracks, culminating in Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ – widely considered the most successful of the feud.

‘Not Like Us’ became Lamar’s fourth Number One single, smashed numerous streaming records and went on to win five Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video.

Now, actor Timothée Chalamet has shared his thoughts on Lamar’s victory. During an interview with journalist Judita DaSilva, he delved into the public perception of the beef.

“I think we saw, beyond the quality of songs in the battle environment, we saw pop culture at large got behind the Nobel figure and Pulitzer figure,” he said, referring to Lamar.

The interview comes after Lamar and Chalamet joined up to sing some of the rapper’s deep cuts in a joint interview. Made for the NFL network, the video saw the two sit in a GNX car – the model Lamar named his 2024 album after – while they delivered renditions of ‘The Heart Pt. 2’ from 2010’s ‘Overly Dedicated’ and ‘Kush & Corinthians’ from 2011’s ‘Section.80’.

The first part of the video saw Chalamet declare his love for Lamar. “Just being a fan of your music forever and knowing like, look where you’re at now, man” he said. “It’s just crazy, Super Bowl halftime show. And you just keep climbing, bro. It’s like, amazing”.

The link between the two stars continued even after Lamar’s acclaimed Super Bowl performance, when it was revealed that the designer bootcut jeans the rapper wore during the performance – which was a popular talking point with viewers online – were actually intended to be worn by Chalamet.

According to an insider who shared a new statement with Page Six, the rapper’s stylist Taylor McNeil had originally sourced the pair of women’s jeans for the A Complete Unknown actor. However, they coincidentally ended up working better with the ‘Not Like Us’ rapper who debuted them instead.

‘Not Like Us’ was crowned the second best song of 2024 by NME, writing: “‘Not Like Us’ packaged intelligent, intensely researched character assassinations into a fierce, booming DJ Mustard-produced club hit. Though his savage, accusatory wordplay grabbed the headlines, it was Lamar’s dissection of Drake as “coloniser” that truly underlined his pure vitriol.”
