ABUJA — In a move designed to fortify regulatory oversight in the nation’s power sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of Engineer Adesayo Olusegun Michael as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).
Engr. Michael will also assume the critical role of Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation (CEIF), bringing decades of technical expertise to the administration’s push to strengthen key technical and regulatory agencies.
A pioneer staff member of the former Electricity Management Services (EMS), Michael was instrumental in the agency’s transition into NEMSA. Industry stakeholders highlight his deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks, specifically regarding the Nigerian Metering Code.
“Engr. Michael’s intimate understanding of the sector, from his time at the EMS to leading key metering initiatives at IBEDC, makes him uniquely qualified to drive safety and compliance,” said a senior official close to the ministry.
Regarding the appointment, sources close to the administration emphasized the need for hands-on experience: “The President is committed to ensuring that technical agencies are led by those who understand the intricacies of the field. Engr. Michael’s background is expected to bolster service delivery and safety enforcement.”
Prior to this appointment, Michael served as the Head of the Metering Department at the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and previously headed the NEMSA Oshodi Meter Tests Station (MTS).
In addition to appointing the new CEO, President Tinubu approved a restructured board for the agency, appointing Ikechi Clara Nwosu as Chairman.
