Amid mounting criticism over the federal government’s handling of the escalating violence in Benue State, President Bola Tinubu has reversed his itinerary and will now visit the troubled state on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The President had been scheduled to visit Kaduna State on Wednesday to commission several projects. However, that visit has been postponed to Thursday, June 19, to prioritize his trip to Benue, where deadly attacks have left scores dead and communities devastated.
According to the Presidency, the visit is part of Tinubu’s renewed push to foster peace and end the persistent communal bloodshed that has plagued the state.
During his time in Benue, President Tinubu is expected to meet with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political leaders, religious figures, youth groups, and community heads, to seek concrete and lasting solutions to the crisis.
Ahead of the President’s visit, top federal officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, heads of intelligence agencies, and the chairmen of the National Assembly’s Defence Committees have been deployed to the state.
A town hall meeting involving all stakeholders will also be held to address the root causes of the unrest and explore pathways to peace.
President Tinubu has repeatedly condemned the ongoing killings in Benue, urging residents and leaders alike to embrace peace, tolerance, and unity. He also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost loved ones in the violence.
