Tony Hawk has given an update on the iconic Wesley Snipes “race war” meme that went viral back in 2018.
In 2018, one Twitter user shared a still from 1991’s New Jack City featuring Wesley Snipes’ Nino Browns crying while pointing a gun at his best friend. “When the race war is happening and I gotta kill Tony Hawk,” @SilentHooper wrote along the image.
The original Tweet was shared tens of thousands of times and even caught the attention of Tony Hawk. “I appreciate the hesitation,” he replied.
The exchange went down in internet history and was recently reshared by X account Internet Hall Of Fame, racking up more than 5.5million views. Earlier this week, Hawk responded to the revived meme.
“We squashed the beef. Let love rule,” he wrote alongside an image of both him and Wesley Snipes shaking hands.

The meeting happened at the 2022 Oscars, with Hawk later sharing the image on his Instagram story alongside the caption “no war”. He went on to say he “explained” the meme to Wesley Snipes. “His reply: ‘New Jack!,” Hawk added.
Back in 2019, Snipes distanced himself from a planned remake of New Jack City. “I don’t particularly like the idea of recreating drug culture. They actually talked to me about doing it and I told them no. I’m having nothing to do with it at all. I think some things should be left alone,” he explained.
Meanwhile, it seems like a new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game is in the works. Earlier this week professional skateboarder Tyshawn Jones, who featured in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 remake, let slip that “I’m in a Tony Hawk coming out, that’s cool… They got a new one they’re remastering so that’s about to come out.”
In other news, Nintendo has confirmed a dedicated Pokémon Presents for next week and fans are expecting some big announcements.
