A 51-year-old transgender individual, Tremaine Deon Carroll, was moved from a women’s cell to a men’s cell after allegedly assaulting a female cellmate in the restroom. Carroll, who identifies as a trans woman, was originally detained in a women’s prison after being charged with rape.
Carroll, also known as Tremaine “Tremayne” Deon, had previously faced three counts of oral copulation, compelling female victims to engage in oral sex.
These charges were later dropped. Recently, Carroll allegedly suffered another stroke following the assault on the female cellmate at the Central California Women’s Facility.
California legislation allows transgender inmates to be housed according to their gender identity, which initially placed Carroll in a women’s facility. Carroll, who stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds, has not undergone sex-reassignment surgery and wears a thick black and gray wig in police photos.
Jane Doe, the assaulted cellmate, reported that Carroll began showing sexual interest and left her suggestive letters shortly after moving to her cell. Despite Jane Doe’s refusals, Carroll allegedly attacked her in the restroom less than a day later.
