The one-year fellowship, named in honor of the late Adejumobi Adegbite—a former journalist and U.S. Consulate staff member—will offer training, mentorship, and resources to 10 early-career reporters across Nigeria.
“We’re proud to honor Adejumobi’s legacy through this fellowship,” said Will Stevens, U.S. Consul General. “His commitment to truth and journalistic integrity continues to inspire, and we believe this program will help cultivate those same values in young Nigerian journalists.”
FIJ’s Executive Director, Fisayo Soyombo, highlighted the program’s potential impact. “Investigative journalism remains one of the strongest tools against corruption and injustice,” he said. “This fellowship is about building the capacity of reporters who are willing to ask tough questions and dig deep for the truth.”
Eligible applicants must have less than five years of professional journalism experience and are required to submit two published investigative stories, a personal statement, and a CV.
Applications should be sent via email to programmes@fij.ng by Monday, May 26, 2025.
“This is more than a fellowship,” said Soyombo. “It’s a call to uphold the highest standards of reporting in Nigeria.”
