The Iowa-based festival Hinterland has announced it will offer refunds to ticket holders if temperatures reach extreme heights on site.
The event will introduce a ‘90 Degree Guarantee’ scheme for 2025 which will allow festival-goers to request returns on their tickets if any days are predicted to reach 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius).
Hinterland faced criticism last year when attendees complained that there was a shortage of drinking water on site. Summer temperatures in Iowa typically reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) at the height of summer.
A statement from the festival’s organisers read: “As global temperatures continue to rise every year, Hinterland is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our attendees.”

“For Hinterland 2025, we’re offering a 90 Degree Guarantee. If the weather reaches 90 degrees or above on any of the three days of Hinterland 2025, you have the opportunity to request a ticket return for each day the forecast is 90 degrees or higher.”
Hinterland 2025 will run from August 1 to 3 in Saint Charles, Iowa and will be headlined by Tyler, The Creator, Lana Del Rey and Kacey Musgraves, with additional sets from Clairo, Bleachers, Remi Wolf, Royel Otis and Wyatt Flores among others.
“If on 29 July at 10am CT, the weather.gov forecast for 1, 2 or 3 August has a true temperature of 90 degrees or higher for the 50240 zip code, ticket purchasers will have the option to request a return of their festival admission ticket for that day,” the festival added.
“Return requests are only available for the day/s the forecast is 90° or higher. Three-day ticket holders can request a return for specific day/s at a rate of 1/3 of the total three-day ticket price.”
Last year’s Hinterland was headlined by Vampire Weekend, Ethel Cain, Noah Kahan and Hozier. Kahan was seen on site enjoying Chappell Roan’s set at the festival from the side of stage. “I might be headlining but I’m really here for Chappell Roan,” he quipped.
