The United States has announced the filing of drug trafficking and terrorism-related charges against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, following what Washington described as a major military operation targeting Venezuela.

According to statements attributed to US authorities, the charges were filed on Saturday, hours after the alleged capture of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The US claimed the operation involved a large-scale military strike and coordination with federal law enforcement agencies.

Announcing the development on Truth Social, former US President Donald Trump said the operation had been successfully executed.

“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country,” Trump wrote.

“This operation was done in conjunction with US law enforcement.”

As of the time of reporting, Venezuelan authorities had not issued an official response, and independent confirmation of the claims was not immediately available. The development, if verified, would mark a dramatic escalation in long-running tensions between Washington and Caracas.
