The United States mission in Nigeria has warned that prominent individuals involved in corruption risk being denied U.S. visas.

In a post shared on X on Monday, the mission said:

> “Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving U.S. visas.”

The statement echoes growing concerns about Nigeria’s image abroad. Earlier this month, Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), noted that the country is still widely regarded as a place where corruption and impunity are entrenched.

The U.S. frequently uses visa bans as a tool to enforce accountability in partner nations. In the past, restrictions were placed on Nigerians accused of disrupting general elections.
