In recent weeks, Lizzo has been building up anticipation for her comeback after taking a “gap year” in 2024. On Valentine’s Day (February 14), Lizzo formally bode farewell to her ‘Special’ era and began teasing her upcoming releases.

At the time, she wrote alongside an Instagram video in which she spray-painted the words “bye bitch” on the ‘Special’ album cover: “I want to introduce to you guys, the newest piece of content from the new era. I have been working on new music for last two years. I took my time and I did it right. The new era begins today. I truly am coming to gag throats.”
Then, she uploaded a video of herself crying before manically laughing. The video ended with a tease that new music would be arriving on February 28.
Now, the ‘About Damn Time’ singer has shared a new cinematic teaser for her upcoming single ‘Love In Real Life’. In the clip, Lizzo is seen sprawled atop a car’s hood as people walk by her. She narrates “Everything was so much simpler, and that’s exactly what I need. No views, no likes. Real love. In real life” before a guitar begins strumming.
Check out the teaser below.
The single will mark Lizzo’s return to music since her 2022’s album ‘Special’.
In a four-star review of ‘Special’, Nick Levine wrote for NME: “Perhaps inevitably, given Lizzo’s overwhelmingly positive message, ‘Special’ is sometimes a bit cheesy. Still, it’s cheesy in a way you won’t want to resist. “Is it your birthday, girl? / ‘Cause you lookin’ likе a present,” she sings on ‘Birthday Girl’, a song that practically marches you to the bar and orders you a shot of Tequila Rose. On this evidence, Lizzo knows exactly who she is as an artist and what she wants to achieve: she’s the bad bitch with an incredible talent for making people feel good.”
Elsewhere, Lizzo recently celebrated reaching her “weight release” goals, telling her followers: “Let this be a reminder you can do anything you put your mind to.”
She also broke her silence in December on the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her in 2023, claiming that she “did nothing wrong”. She had been sued by three former dancers who claimed to have been subject to sexual harassment and a hostile workplace environment while on tour. She denied the claims and said the situation had left her contemplating quitting the music industry.
