Oba Olukosi of Ilukosi-Ijesa, a traditional ruler in Osun State, has raised alarm over what he described as a provocation, after one Engr. Chibuke Azubuike allegedly paraded himself as the Obi of Lagos.
The controversy began when an invitation card for the unveiling of the prototype of the Obi of Lagos Palace and the celebration of Azubuike’s first Ofala Festival in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos surfaced on social media. The invite introduced him as “Obi of Lagos State.”
Reacting, Oba Olukosi reposted the invitation and expressed displeasure at the title. The monarch confirmed that he had directed his aides to take up the matter formally.
“I have directed my team to file a petition against one Chibuke Azubuike parading himself as Obi of Lagos, and will bring this up at our Traditional Rulers Council meeting coming up this Friday,” the monarch stated.
He further warned: “This act of provocation against our people will not go unanswered.”
When contacted for his response, Engr. Azubuike denied laying claim to the title of Obi of Lagos. According to him, he is only the Obi of Ndigbo in Lagos State, not the Obi of Lagos.
