Uyo, Akwa Ibom State** – Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested a 13-year-old pupil of St. Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area, for allegedly threatening classmates with his father’s locally-made pistol.
The suspect’s father was also detained as investigations into the incident intensify. Commissioner of Police (CP) Mr. Baba Azare revealed the arrest during a press briefing in Uyo on Wednesday, detailing multiple criminal cases recently tackled by the command.
According to Azare, officers acted on a tip-off received on January 30, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., indicating the boy was brandishing a firearm on school grounds.
“Our operatives swiftly arrested the suspect and recovered the pistol. During interrogation, he confessed to possessing the gun since November 2023, which he retrieved from his father’s bedroom,” Azare stated.
The father is now in custody pending further investigation.
