An 18-year-old apprentice in Anambra State has allegedly impregnated ten girls in just five months, sparking public outrage and a plea for help from the state’s Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo.

According to Obinabo, the teenager was initially sent to serve under a master to learn a trade, but within three months, he had impregnated both his master’s daughter and a salesgirl. The incident led to his immediate dismissal.

Speaking during a live broadcast on social media on Wednesday, the commissioner expressed deep concern over the situation.

“I want advice from the public because this one is beyond my capacity,” Obinabo said. “This boy was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18. In just three months, he impregnated his master’s daughter and a salesgirl. He was sent packing.”

She explained that the matter escalated after the boy returned to his village, where he reportedly impregnated eight more girls within two months.

“The boy’s mother came to my office, visibly distressed,” Obinabo added. “She told me, ‘Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart jumps. Please, I need help.’”

Obinabo said she confronted the boy to understand how he was able to convince so many girls.

“I asked him what magic he used. He said he simply tells the girls that he loves them and would marry them once he becomes wealthy,” she said.

Describing the matter as deeply troubling, Obinabo concluded, “This problem is beyond me because of the boy’s age and the number of girls involved. That’s why I’m calling on the public — is this spiritual? What can be done?”

She did not disclose the boy’s identity or the name of his village, but emphasized that immediate intervention was needed.
