A 54-year-old woman has been arrested after a shocking discovery that she allegedly operated an illegal detention centre inside her home, a case that has since gone viral on social media.
According to reports, the woman, who runs a local beer bar from her residence, allegedly locked up customers who failed to pay their bills or became unruly after excessive drinking. Authorities say at least 36 men were unlawfully detained in the makeshift prison between December 2, 2025, and the time of her arrest.
Confirming the incident, a police spokesperson said the suspect was taken into custody following complaints from residents and victims. “Our investigations revealed that several individuals were being held against their will in a private residence under inhumane conditions,” the spokesperson said. “No citizen has the right to detain another person outside the provisions of the law.”
Some victims described their ordeal as traumatic. One man, who asked not to be named, said, “If you argued with her or couldn’t settle your bill immediately, she would lock you up. People were scared to speak out.”
Police said the suspect will be charged to court after investigations are concluded, while urging members of the public to report similar abuses. “The law must always take its course,” the spokesperson added. “Disputes should be resolved legally, not through intimidation or unlawful detention.”
The case has sparked widespread outrage online, with many calling for stricter monitoring of informal businesses operating within residential areas.
