The Court of Appeal has annulled the appointment of Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), affirming Tajudeen Baruwa as the rightful leader.

The judgment upholds an earlier decision by the National Industrial Court, which had recognized Baruwa’s position as the legitimate National President. In its ruling, the Appeal Court addressed the ongoing leadership crisis within the NURTW, emphasizing that Baruwa’s leadership remains legally valid.

The decision comes amid heightened tensions within the union, particularly following MC Oluomo’s election last week by the Southwest Zone of the union during the Quadrennial Delegate Conference in Osogbo, Osun State.

Speaking on the judgment, legal representatives for Baruwa expressed satisfaction. “This decision brings clarity and reaffirms the rule of law in the union’s affairs,” they said.

The leadership tussle has fueled divisions within the NURTW, with MC Oluomo’s supporters maintaining their loyalty to him despite the court ruling.

However, Baruwa called for unity, urging all factions to respect the decision. “We must come together to strengthen our union and focus on the welfare of our members across the country,” Baruwa stated.

The ruling is expected to have far-reaching implications for the union’s stability, as efforts to resolve internal disputes and regional disagreements continue.

Union members and stakeholders hope the decision will mark the beginning of a more cohesive and transparent leadership era within the NURTW.
