Former Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, has congratulated Comrade Grace Ike on her groundbreaking election as the first female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council in its 41-year history.

During a courtesy visit to Dame Tallen’s Abuja residence on Tuesday, Comrade Ike was accompanied by Council Treasurer Sandra Udeike and former National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) President Evelyn Onyilo.

The visit marked a celebration of Ike’s recent inauguration and her trailblazing achievement.

Presenting a Christmas souvenir to Ike, Dame Tallen expressed her delight at the development, describing it as a significant milestone for gender inclusion in leadership. “Your election is a victory for all women, and I am confident you will lead the council to greater heights. It is a call to serve, and I trust you to leave a lasting legacy,” she said.

Tallen, a former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, also commended the NUJ for its progressive strides in fostering diversity and inclusion within its leadership ranks.

Responding, Comrade Ike reaffirmed her commitment to delivering impactful leadership. “Our focus is on improving members’ welfare and enhancing the council’s public image. Together with my team, we are determined to make the NUJ FCT Council a model for others to emulate,” she said.

The visit underscored the significance of Ike’s victory and the optimism surrounding her leadership, as NUJ members look forward to a transformative era under her guidance.
