The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, as well as Wednesday, January 1, 2025, for New Year celebrations.
This announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja. In the statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to all Nigerians, urging them to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that the festive season symbolizes.
“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” he said.
The Minister emphasized the need for Nigerians to strengthen family and community bonds while remaining committed to fostering peace and unity across the nation.
He further expressed optimism about the nation’s future, stating, “While wishing Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025, I am confident that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s Administration, the new year will usher in a better and more prosperous economy that will be the envy of the world.”
Dr. Tunji-Ojo reassured citizens of the Federal Government’s dedication to ensuring peace, security, and development, calling on everyone to play their part in advancing the country.
The Federal Government’s gesture underscores the importance of the holiday season as a time for both celebration and reflection on the nation’s collective progress.
