The Lagos State Government has announced major traffic diversions and partial road closures across Victoria Island and Lekki ahead of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who urged motorists to plan their movements ahead of time and make use of alternative routes.

According to the government, several roads along the 42-kilometre and 10-kilometre race routes will be closed from midnight on race day and reopened gradually as runners move through the corridors.

Osiyemi explained that the 2026 edition of the marathon will feature two races running simultaneously across key parts of Victoria Island and Lekki.

“Ahead of the 2026 Lagos City Marathon taking place on Saturday, February 14, 2026, the Lagos State Government has released a traffic diversion plan to the motoring public,” he said.
“The marathon, which consists of a 42km and a 10km race, will take place at the same time across major routes in Victoria Island and Lekki.”

He added that traffic officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security agencies would be deployed to manage the affected corridors and prevent unauthorised access.

For the 42km race, runners will start from Ahmadu Bello Way near the MRS Filling Station and proceed along the entire Coastal Road to the finish point.

The 10km race will begin from Durosimi Etti Street in Lekki Phase 1, pass through Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Bishop Oluwole Street and Akin Adesola Street, and end at Sanusi Fafunwa Street.

All adjoining roads, junctions and intersections along the routes will be blocked from about 12:00 a.m. on race day and reopened intermittently as the event progresses.

Osiyemi assured residents that traffic personnel would be strategically positioned to assist commuters and minimise disruptions.

“These measures are necessary to guarantee the safety of both participants and road users during the 11th edition of the marathon,” he said.

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon is an annual event that attracts thousands of local and international runners and usually comes with extensive traffic management arrangements to ensure smooth operations across the city.
