The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Wednesday announced the dismissal of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman and other officers implicated in the alleged extrajudicial killing of Delta-based music artist, Mene Ogidi, popularly known as Oghenemine.
Disu disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, describing the April 26 incident in Effurun, Delta State, as “criminal and unprofessional.”
“There is no place for such behaviour in the Nigeria Police Force,” he said, adding that the officers involved would also face prosecution.
According to the police chief, ASP Usman and the affected officers were transferred from the Delta State Police Command to Abuja to undergo disciplinary procedures.
He explained that the Force Disciplinary Committee swiftly commenced investigations into the matter, while three inspectors were subjected to an Orderly Room Trial.
Disu stated that findings from the investigation revealed that ASP Usman violated Force Order 247, which regulates the use of firearms by police personnel, and failed to adhere to standard operational procedures.
“The actions of the officers clearly contravened established police rules and procedures,” he said.
The killing of the 28-year-old artist had sparked outrage in Delta State, with calls from residents and rights groups demanding justice and accountability from the police authorities.
