The widow of late retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has been released by her abductors, bringing a bittersweet end to a harrowing ordeal that has gripped family members, colleagues, and concerned Nigerians.

Family sources confirmed that while the general’s wife regained her freedom after days in captivity, the kidnappers also handed over the deceased senior officer’s body for burial to the family, deepening the tragedy surrounding the incident.

“This is a painful moment for the family,” a source close to the family said. “We are grateful that his wife has been released alive, but the loss of the General is devastating. No family should have to endure such suffering.”

The development has sent shockwaves through the military community and beyond, reigniting concerns over the worsening security situation and the increasing boldness of kidnapping gangs targeting prominent citizens.

A family representative described the mixed emotions surrounding the widow’s release.

“We welcomed her back with relief, but our hearts remain heavy because we also received the body of our beloved husband, father, and leader,” the representative said. “The family is mourning an irreparable loss.”

Security analysts say the incident underscores the growing threat posed by criminal elements operating across parts of the country and highlights the urgent need for stronger measures to protect citizens.

As relatives carried out a befitting burial of the late Major General, tributes have continued to pour in from military colleagues, friends, and well-wishers who remember him for his years of dedicated service to the nation.

Authorities have yet to provide detailed information on the circumstances surrounding the general’s death, while investigations into the kidnapping are expected to continue
