Kano State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, has called for the arrest of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, the former Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Abbas’ demand follows Kwankwaso’s accusations against the APC-led federal government, claiming it is attempting to create a new breed of Boko Haram terrorists in Northern Nigeria. Kwankwaso made these allegations during a ceremony in Madobi, where he inaugurated an 85-kilometre rural road project worth N21 billion.
In response, Abbas issued a statement condemning Kwankwaso’s comments, asserting that no threat from the former Kano State governor could intimidate the federal government. Abbas urged security agencies to detain Kwankwaso to uncover the identities of those he claims are working against Kano and recruiting Boko Haram insurgents.
“We want to call on security agents in the strongest terms to arrest this man so that he reveals the identity of those he referred to as enemies of the state working for the federal government to recruit Boko Haram terrorists and insurgents,” Abbas stated.
The APC chairman also accused Kwankwaso of being a longstanding security threat to Kano and the nation. “Kwankwaso has for long been a security threat to Kano and the nation in view of his antecedents. He runs a movement in which he has been widely accused of recruiting youth, mostly school dropouts, to unleash terror on the people in the state,” he said.
Abbas further noted that during the legal battles over the governorship election, Kwankwaso and his associates allegedly threatened judges of the Election Petition Tribunal. Additionally, he accused Kwankwaso of contributing to the recruitment of armed thugs stationed at the Emir’s Palace, who are involved in illicit activities and pose a threat to residents.
