Abuja, Nigeria — On Saturday, Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu unveiled her vegetable garden at the State House Residence in Abuja. During the event, she emphasized the crucial role women play in the nation’s food security.
“Women should take the lead in the food security campaign,” Tinubu stated, highlighting the importance of women’s participation in agriculture.
Tinubu also encouraged women to join the Every Home A Garden Competition, which aims to promote smart gardening and communal living.
The competition, which is open to first-time women farmers across Nigeria, offers a grand prize of N25 million and closes on September 25, 2024. Entries should be submitted in a 30-second video format to the Office of the Wives of State Governors, according to a statement issued by Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi.
The First Lady’s garden showcases seven types of vegetables: spinach, water leaf, bitter leaf, ewedu, lemon grass, scent leaf, and okra.
