Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday publicly announced his defection to the Accord Party, revealing that the party will serve as the platform for his 2026 re-election campaign.

Addressing a crowd of supporters at a well-attended event in Osogbo, Adeleke disclosed that he had secretly registered with the Accord Party on November 6, 2025, after what he described as weeks of deep reflection and state-wide consultations.

“I joined the Accord Party after extensive consultations with stakeholders, opinion leaders and my political associates,” the governor said. “Stakeholders and residents of Osun State are aware of why we are taking this important decision. We intend to pursue a second term on the platform of the Accord Party to complete the delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been applauded at home and abroad.”

Adeleke explained that the party’s ideology convinced him to make the switch, stressing that its guiding principles align with his administration’s priorities.

“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism matches our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare,” he noted. “Since joining, I have been fascinated by the party’s philosophy. The primary essence of government is the welfare and wellbeing of the people.”

Welcoming the Accord Party’s national leadership to Osun, the governor declared that the alliance marked the beginning of a new political chapter for the state.

“You are now part of us, just as I am now part of you,” he said. “We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.”

Adeleke urged party members across all zones of the state to remain united and focused ahead of next year’s election, declaring that the Accord Party is now “firmly positioned” to take full charge of Osun’s political structure.

“From Osun West to Osun East and Osun Central, this is our party — our new platform for victory come August next year,” he said confidently.

With this announcement, Adeleke’s defection dramatically alters the political landscape of Osun State, setting up what observers expect to be a fierce and unpredictable contest in the 2026 governorship race.
