Allies of former Rivers Governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike are urging Governor Siminalayi Fubara to adhere strictly to the constitution. In a recent interview on Channels Television, Dr. Chidi Lloyd—a staunch Wike supporter and former Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area—warned that Fubara would not be permitted to bypass constitutional mandates.

“Fubara must govern according to the dictate of the constitution,” Dr. Lloyd stated. “As one of the judges told him today, you cannot set a law for yourself and not obey them. Other arms of government won’t allow you to overstep your boundaries, and the legislature in Rivers State should be allowed to breathe.”

Dr. Lloyd continued, criticizing actions he described as overreaching: “The governor, with due respect, brazenly moved into the space reserved for the Assembly with plans to demolish it. We’re now toeing the side of peace, but those who choose to disregard court orders should remember that this is the Supreme Court of Nigeria.”

The remarks follow Friday’s Supreme Court ruling, which ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to suspend the release of funds to the Rivers State government until a properly constituted House of Assembly is in place. The court also mandated that Martin Amaewhule—the factional Speaker aligned with Wike—resume legislative duties immediately alongside all duly elected assembly members.

The ruling has been hailed as a significant victory for Wike’s camp amid an ongoing power struggle with Governor Fubara. Wike was seen celebrating the decision, declaring that it restored constitutional order in Rivers State. He went on to criticize the notion of a government run by only a few lawmakers, describing it as an act of impunity and affirming that the ruling marks the end of unlawful governance in the state.

As the political battle unfolds, Wike’s allies remain steadfast in their call for a government that operates fully within constitutional boundaries.
