President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as “remarkable achievements” in the territory, noting that the accomplishments translated into electoral gains for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The President’s commendation followed Saturday’s Area Council elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the six FCT councils, alongside by-elections in Rivers and Kano states.

In a statement issued Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu congratulated APC candidates on what he described as a strong showing at the polls.

“President Tinubu commends the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his remarkable achievements in the territory, which have yielded political dividends to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC),” the statement read.

The President also congratulated the APC’s national leadership as well as party structures in Kano and Rivers states for the victories recorded during the elections.

According to Onanuga, “The President congratulates the APC national leadership, Kano and Rivers leaderships, and all members of the party on the victories at the polls.”

Tinubu further lauded INEC, security agencies, and voters for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise.

“President Tinubu lauds the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and voters for the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections,” the statement added.

He urged those elected to discharge their responsibilities with humility and a deep sense of service to the people.

“The President urges the winners to serve with humility, patriotism, and dedication and to view the mandate given to them by the people as a sacred trust,” Onanuga quoted him as saying.

Tinubu also acknowledged the sportsmanship of candidates who participated in the elections, stressing that robust participation strengthens democratic governance.

“He further commends the courage and discipline displayed by all the contestants, stating that democracy is enriched with the vibrancy of participation and competition,” the statement noted.

Affirming that the successful conduct of the elections reinforces Nigeria’s democratic institutions, the President called on INEC to build on the progress recorded.

He urged the electoral body “to continue improving its efforts to deliver even more exemplary electoral processes,” the statement concluded.
