The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed a request from the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) to increase the pump price of petrol and diesel by ₦75 per litre.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the refinery described the demand as an unnecessary burden on consumers.

> “We have no intention of increasing our gantry price to accommodate such demands, nor are we willing to pay a subsidy of over ₦1.5 trillion—a practice that historically defrauded the Federal Government for many years,” the refinery declared.

According to Dangote, the proposed adjustment would have raised petrol prices to about ₦950 per litre and diesel to around ₦1,090 per litre in some parts of the country.

The company explained that the extra ₦75, linked to coastal logistics charges, would translate to over ₦1.5 trillion annually when multiplied by Nigeria’s daily average consumption of 40 million litres of petrol and 15 million litres of diesel.

Rejecting the push, Dangote urged marketers to embrace its direct distribution system.

> “DAPPMAN and other marketers are welcome to lift products directly from our gantry and benefit from our logistics-free initiative,” the statement said.

The refinery stressed that its direct gantry sales model was created to keep costs lower for Nigerians, warning against attempts to introduce artificial charges that could worsen fuel prices nationwide.
