Adeleke Meets Tinubu (1)

By Ola Williams –

A surprise visit by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to President Bola Tinubu’s Lagos residence, accompanied by his billionaire brother, Deji Adeleke, and global Afrobeats star, Davido is sparking intense speculation about shifting political loyalties ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.

The meeting, which the presidency described as “cordial” and “a symbol of inclusiveness,” had no publicly disclosed agenda. Yet, the optics, particularly at a time when several top opposition figures are decamping from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have triggered alarm bells within the PDP ranks.

“This visit didn’t happen in a vacuum,” a senior PDP official, speaking anonymously, told reporters. “With governors and senators already switching sides, seeing Adeleke at Tinubu’s home, not in an official capacity, but in a private setting sends a powerful message.”

Political analysts say the visit could mark a pivotal moment in what many see as an ongoing political realignment. “The optics are significant,” noted analyst Kola Olatunji. “When you combine that with the recent defections of governors from Delta, Akwa Ibom, and others, it suggests the PDP is bleeding influence.”

Davido’s presence injected celebrity energy into the visit, with many fans celebrating it as a moment of generational unity. Social media lit up with reactions, with some lauding the image of national harmony while others questioned the singer’s political leanings.

“Davido is family, yes, but he’s also a cultural force,” said Aisha Lawal, a pop culture commentator. “His being there isn’t just about blood ties, it adds a public dimension to a private political move.”

For now, Adeleke has not made any statements regarding a potential defection. But within the PDP, the concern is clear: the walls may be closing in.

“It’s not just about party loyalty anymore,” one party strategist admitted. “It’s about survival in a changing political landscape. And this visit could be the start of something much bigger.”
