Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot has returned to film production following his defeat in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Surulere Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Photos and videos circulating on social media showed the three-term legislator on a movie set alongside fellow actor Ibrahim Chatta, sparking speculation that he is making a comeback to Nollywood after years of active political service. The duo were seen discussing scenes during what appeared to be the production of a new film, with fans expressing excitement over Elliot’s return to acting.
His resurfacing on set comes shortly after Elliot lost the APC ticket for the 2027 general elections to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who won the party’s primary by a wide margin. The video from the location has continued to draw reactions online, with supporters saying they look forward to seeing him back on the big screen.
Elliot has, meanwhile, dismissed the idea that defecting to another political party is the answer to Nigeria’s challenges, arguing that changing camps does not automatically translate into better leadership.
Speaking on The Morayo Show, the actor-turned-politician said he sees no reason to abandon President Bola Tinubu for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 elections. He maintained that leadership should be driven by service and humility, stressing that political power is temporary and that what matters most is the integrity and performance of officeholders rather than the platform they represent.
“I’m not sure. I ask myself, if I leave Asiwaju and I go to Obi, what is the difference between Asiwaju and Obi? If I leave Obi and I go to Atiku, what is the difference?
“My own kind of politician, I don’t steal money. If you look at Surulere 10 years ago, it was a horrible place to live in, but now there’s electricity, healthcare and all,” he said.
Elliot pointed to his years representing Surulere as proof of tangible progress, particularly in electricity and healthcare, which he cited as evidence of his commitment to public service.
