The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took decisive action on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, by expelling key members allegedly involved in anti-party activities.

The expelled individuals include the impeached deputy governor of the state, Mr Philip Shaibu, the National Vice Chairman, South-south, Mr Dan Orbih, and former House of Representatives member Hon Omorgie Ihama from Oredo federal constituency.

According to a statement from the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Party, issued by spokesperson Mr Ogie Vasco, “Philip Shaibu, Dan Orbih, and Ihama have been expelled due to their involvement in alleged anti-party activities.” The decision, effective immediately, followed extensive deliberations by the SWC.

Mr Philip Shaibu had been impeached in April 2024 as deputy governor of Edo State by the State House of Assembly, based on findings from a seven-member investigative panel chaired by retired Justice S. A. Omonuwa, which accused him of “misconduct, perjury, and disclosure of government secrets.”

In response to his expulsion, Mr Dan Orbih, the ousted National Vice Chairman of the PDP, South-south zone, criticized the process, stating to journalists, “When a group of persons sits down to make pronouncements that are unconstitutional, it only shows that they are ignorant of the constitution of the party.”
