The Federal and State governments have been called upon to as a matter of urgency establish and equip cancer screening and treatment facilities in all the Local Government areas of the Country. This is to ensure early detection of the disease and save more lives from the terminal ailment.
The call was made Sunday by a cancer Survivor and President and Founder of the Pan African Young Women Development Initiative Dr Jophia Nanker Gupar at a thanksgiving service in Abuja.
Having gone through the pains of being diagnosed with stage one Leukaemia last year, Dr Gupar said it is imperative for all levels of government to improve on our health care system by providing the needed resources, equipment and manpower in our hospitals stressing most health institutions in Nigeria are ill equipped to handle the complex issues related with terminal illness especially cancer.
On her remarkable journey to recovery from Leukaemia, she thanked God for her healing and disclosed that a combination of factors helped. This include early detection and treatment as well as healthy eating habits with support from family and loved ones. She commended the medical personnel at the Ife Facility and said they greatly supported her in the recovery journey. Dr Gupar who was hosted by family and friends to celebrate her healing prayed for a cure for cancer.
Among those who attended the thanksgiving was former Gubernatorial Candidate in Nasarawa State, Honourable Matthew Ombugaku, H.E. Nneoma Rochas Okorocha, Ambassador Fatima Balla, the Director General Trade Fair, Mrs Vera Ndanusa, The National President of National Youth Council of Nigeria Mr Sukubo and a host of gender rights , Notable Civil Society Organizations and youth groups.
