–Atafo Igbinedion (Abuja):
The Federal Government has announced an upward revision of fees for the Nigerian passport, set to take effect from September 1, 2024.
This was revealed in a statement on Wednesday by Kenneth Udo, spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), via the NIS’s official X handle.
Udo explained that the fee increase is part of efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
“Effective September 1, 2024, a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity, previously priced at N35,000, will now cost N50,000.
Similarly, the 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity will increase from N70,000 to N100,000,” the statement outlined.
While the NIS expressed regret over any inconvenience the fee hike may cause applicants, it reassured Nigerians of its “unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times.”
