The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially set 16 years as the minimum age for admission into all tertiary institutions across the country.
The announcement was made as part of ongoing efforts to standardize and improve the quality of education nationwide. According to government authorities, the decision aims to ensure that students are mature enough academically and emotionally before entering universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the move, saying it will help address concerns over underage admission and its impact on learning outcomes. Institutions are expected to begin full implementation of the policy with immediate effect.
