Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has vowed to abandon his 2027 presidential ambition if anyone can prove he collected money from Nigerians in the diaspora during his ongoing trip to the United States.
Speaking in the US on Monday, Obi dismissed insinuations that his visit was aimed at raising campaign funds from Nigerians abroad, insisting that he was funding his travels and political activities entirely from his personal resources.
He said reports claiming he had gone to America to solicit money from the diaspora were false.
“If anyone can show me one person in America who gave me even one dollar, I will end my 2027 campaign,” he said.
Obi maintained that he had not received financial support from anyone during his trip.
“I am using my own resources and paying all my bills, I am running around the world, trying to do the right thing,” he added.
The former Anambra State governor has consistently positioned himself as a candidate independent of the influence of political godfathers and undisclosed financiers, a theme he has repeatedly emphasised since his 2023 presidential run.
