The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has admitted to significant errors during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and has approved a re-sit for 379,997 affected candidates.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, became emotional as he acknowledged the failures that marred this year’s UTME. Struggling to hold back tears, he publicly took responsibility for the disruptions, citing negligence by some staff members as a contributing factor.
Prof. Oloyede revealed that candidates who took the exam at 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres within the Owerri Zone—covering the five South-East states—would be required to retake the test. The decision follows widespread complaints of technical glitches, unusually low scores, and irregularities during the examination process.
The announcement comes in response to growing outrage from candidates and parents, many of whom demanded an investigation and corrective action from the examination body.
