The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) carried out a major operation in Abuja on Monday, targeting supermarkets and open shops suspected of selling illegal products.
In a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, the agency revealed that it had seized unregistered and counterfeit cosmetics worth ₦37 million during the raids, which were conducted based on intelligence from its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.
“These operations are part of our ongoing efforts to clear the market of counterfeit and illegally imported cosmetic products in Abuja,” the statement read.
NAFDAC further emphasized that it is committed to tracking down the sources of these illegal goods. “NAFDAC is committed to investigating the sources of these illegal products and will take strict regulatory action against those involved.”
The agency also reassured the public of its dedication to safety, confirming that all seized items will be destroyed according to the agency’s regulations: “All confiscated items will be destroyed in line with the Agency’s laws and regulations, ensuring public safety.”
