The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the death of its Chief of Operations, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, describing his passing as a significant loss to the service and the nation.
Rear Admiral Katagum, a respected senior officer who previously served as Chief of Naval Intelligence, was credited with making invaluable contributions that strengthened the Navy’s operational effectiveness in recent years.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, paid glowing tribute to the late officer, noting that his career was defined by professionalism, dedication, and commitment to national security.
“Throughout his distinguished service in the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Katagum demonstrated exemplary leadership, strategic insight and unwavering loyalty to the ideals and mission of the Nigerian Navy. His legacy will remain a source of inspiration to all personnel across the services,” Folorunsho said.
He added that the service was deeply saddened by the loss and stood in solidarity with the bereaved family.
“The Nigerian Navy extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and associates during this difficult time,” he stated.
According to the Navy, Rear Admiral Katagum passed away after a protracted illness and has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
“Rear Admiral Katagum passed away following a protracted illness and has since been buried according to Islamic rites. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement added.
