Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is commemorating a significant milestone as it marks 70 years of unwavering dedication to journalistic excellence.

In an address to members, NUJ President Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi lauded the tireless efforts of Nigerian journalists, emphasizing the union’s role in championing press freedom and upholding ethical standards.

“For seven decades, the NUJ has led the fight in defending journalists’ rights and maintaining the highest ethical standards in our industry,” Abdullahi stated. He further praised members for their commitment to truth and accountability, noting their crucial role in amplifying the voices of the marginalized.

Reflecting on the union’s storied legacy, Abdullahi urged journalists to renew their commitment to the core values of their profession and continue working toward a more just and democratic society. “Together, we can ensure that the press remains free and independent for generations to come,” he added.

The 70th anniversary celebration not only honors the NUJ’s remarkable achievements but also reaffirms its steadfast commitment to safeguarding the integrity of journalism in Nigeria.
