The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has urged its Muslim members to embrace unity, self-discipline, and compassion as they observe the sacred month of Ramadan.

In a statement signed by the Council Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the NUJ FCT extended warm Ramadan greetings to Muslim journalists, emphasizing the importance of the holy month in fostering spiritual growth and professional integrity.

Chairman of the Council, Comrade Grace Ike, described Ramadan as a time for deep reflection and a renewed commitment to truth and fairness in journalism.

“During this month of fasting and prayer, may our hearts be filled with gratitude for the blessings we receive and the opportunity to serve our communities with honesty and fairness,” she said. “It is a time to embrace empathy, humility, and service—not only in our personal lives but also in our duty as journalists dedicated to informing the public with accuracy and integrity.”

She further highlighted the role of Ramadan in promoting solidarity and urged journalists to uphold their responsibilities despite challenges in the profession.

“The month of Ramadan symbolizes a time of reflection, compassion, and generosity, where individuals and communities unite to support one another and extend kindness to those in need,” Comrade Ike added.

She also encouraged all journalists, regardless of their religious background, to use the Ramadan period to strengthen their professional and personal commitments while fostering unity within the media community.

The statement concluded with prayers for peace, blessings, and prosperity for all Muslim faithful, expressing hope that the spirit of Ramadan would inspire wisdom, courage, and compassion in all.
