The police in Ogun State have arrested Odukaye Kunle, a father from the Ota area, after a viral video showed him violently attacking his five-year-old son, Boluwatife, while the child was preparing for school.
In the disturbing footage, Kunle, seemingly preoccupied with his phone, suddenly kicked the boy to the ground as he approached to ask for money for snacks. Boluwatife fell backward, hitting his head hard on the pavement, prompting shocked bystanders to intervene.
Eyewitnesses immediately rescued the boy and alerted the authorities. The police confirmed yesterday that Kunle had been taken into custody.
Speaking on the incident, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, assured the public that justice would be served.
“The mother of the boy and the boy will be taken to our police medical center in Ota for further medical assessment and attention,” Adejobi said in a statement on social media.
He added that the Ogun State Officer-in-Charge of Medical Services had been directed to oversee the boy’s care.
“Kunle will be charged to court on Monday,” Adejobi confirmed. “We commend the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their swift action in ensuring that the boy gets justice.”
Adejobi also thanked members of the public for their concern and efforts in bringing the case to light.
